Professional Workshops & Clinical Supervision

Choice Theory©, developed by Dr. William Glasser, is the psychology that explains the why and how of human behavior. Reality Therapy, based on the belief of Choice Theory©, is a method of counselling, interviewing, empowering and teaching ourselves and others how to gain more effective control over our lives. Lead Management is the application of Choice Theory© in situations where one is given the responsibility to manage others.

The Basic Intensive Training provides an opportunity to study the concepts of Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy and Lead Management practices. The training is conducted using Lead Management principles so that participants not only gain a theoretical understanding of these concepts and skills, but also experiences these applications in practice. The training has also been planned with the intention to provide participants, in their individual and collaborative efforts, quality learning. Participants will increase knowledge of the inter-relationship of the various components of the helping process. A Basic Intensive Training is taught by William Glasser International-approved faculty. At the end of this workshop, participants will be awarded a Basic Intensive Training Certificate from the William Glasser International. This will form part of the process whereby the “The William Glasser International” recognises a person qualified to practice Reality Therapy.

The purpose of the Basic Practicum is to assist the participant in becoming more familiar and comfortable with Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy and Lead Management. The content of practicum will include role-plays, evaluation of actual interviewing and counselling on audio or videotapes, personal journal, book/chapter review, case studies and self-evaluation entries. Emphasis is placed on role-plays and casework so that the participant gains sufficient experience and feedback in preparation for their attendance at the Advanced Intensive Training.

The Advanced Intensive Training provides opportunity to study Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy and Lead Management in much greater depth. Instruction takes a variety of forms, including role-plays, lectures, videos, and discussion. Special emphasis is given to the practice of Reality Therapy by participants. They will be supervised in small groups and will receive individual feedback. They will learn practical skills immediately applicable on-the-job in relating with their students, children and their colleagues. Participants will increase knowledge of the inter-relationship of the various components of the helping process. An Advanced Intensive Training is taught by William Glasser International-approved senior faculty. At the end of this workshop, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Advanced Intensive Training from the William Glasser International. This will form part of the process whereby the “The William Glasser International” recognises a person qualified to practice Reality Therapy.

During the Advanced Practicum, preparation begins for attendance at Certification session. Participants are to read more of the works of Dr. William Glasser and continue the process of integration. At Advanced Practicum, participants concentrate on more intensive practice as helpee and helper.  In addition, they focus on learning more about how to give constructive feedback to other participants. Each participant develops and practices his/her own 15-minute presentation, which teaches some aspect of Dr. Glasser’s concepts, with his/her Advanced Practicum Supervisor and group. This presentation is then made to the small Certification session group, and is one of the requirements at Certification. After the successful completion of the Advanced Practicum, the participant may be recommended to attend a Certification session.

The final step in the process leading to CT/RTC (Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy Certification) is the attendance at Certification 4-days sessions. This provides opportunity for participants together to gain new knowledge and demonstrate the skills learned throughout the previous steps. Together you will share experiences, offer short presentations and learn new ways to implement Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy and Lead Management. The Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy Certification is the recognition by the William Glasser International that a person has completed the certification process and demonstrated knowledge and skill in Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy and Lead Management. Upon completion, you will be the recipient of a Certificate and receive the designation of CT/RTC.

This supervision program is for beginning Choice Theory© and Lead Management practitioners who have completed Basic or Advanced Intensive Training in Choice Theory©, Reality Therapy & Lead Management and/or CT/RTC practitioners, who are managers, supervisors or leaders intending to implement concepts and principles of Choice Theory © and Lead Management in their organisation.

The supervision sessions is designed to facilitate participants in aligning and implementing ideas, practices and procedures within the Choice Theory© and Lead Management framework. It furthers provide participants with the support as well as enhancement of application and ongoing learning in Choice Theory© and Lead Management. Those organisations that were committed to learning the Choice Theory© model and implementing it correctly received better than expected results in particular, the increased in employees performance, increased awareness of the benefits derive from the productive relationships and the decreased levels of stress amongst employees.

As Intern Counsellors acquire the necessary knowledge, it is important for Intern Counsellor to integrate the theory and scientific knowledge into their practice. Besides learning to integrate, interns are to learn about professionalism and being part of a team in addition to attaining basic clinical skills. Equally important, counselling placement needs careful management and structured support. Supervision may be with individual and/or group. At the core of our supervision, it is to assist interns develop best practices and confidence, make sense of their learning experiences and facilitate their professionalism.

Supervision is essential to ensure high standards of professional practice. The purpose of supervision here is to support and assist the professional counsellor and social workers to a) learn from his/her clinical experience, b) progress in expertise c) ensure value service to their client and d) achieve personal and professional growth. School counselling often include comprehensive services which may involve guidance, advise-giving, crisis response as well as other evolving duties that may deemed necessary by the school. With such variance in job duties, supervision is vital for school counsellor. The focus of our supervision is to support and address frequent issues of professional isolation in their work, debriefing after difficult cases or situations, personal and professional growth as well as skills and techniques development in working with students. We offer clinical supervision for individuals and groups.
